Auld Shebeen in Fairfax City is a hybrid of a laid-back college bar and a high-energy Georgetown spot. This restaurant and bar has an ideal layout to accommodate those who want to enjoy a beer and talk and those who want to party a little harder to loud music. The upstairs has a bar and plenty of tables, and downstairs, in "The Cellar," they have another bar, a few tables and dart boards. The Cellar is where the Auld Shebeen features their weekly entertainment like live bands, a D.J., karaoke and Texas Hold-‘Em tournaments.
Drinks are more reasonably priced than D.C. bars, and Auld Shebeen has a wide selection of wines, mixed drinks, and especially beers. Their wines range from $5-8.50 per glass and $18-32 per bottle. Their two full- service bars offer an excellent choice of liquors and a full range of mixers from Coke to Sugar-Free Red Bull. Like any Irish bar should, Auld Shebeen serves both imported and domestic beers by the bottle or from the tap.
Fairfax has an abundance of talented musicians, and like other area bars, Auld Shebeen features the best of them for a $5 cover charge on Friday nights, starting at 9 p.m. For music lovers who enjoy solo and small group musicians, come out Sundays from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. when there is no cover charge.
If you prefer to make your own music—or laugh at others—the best night to go is Tuesday for their karaoke night. The Cellar usually has a modest sized crowd, and the performances are alcohol-inspired and uninhibited. Doors open at 10 p.m., and there is no cover charge.
Other entertainment includes a D.J. and dancing on Thursday and Saturday nights, Texas Hold-‘Em tournaments on Wednesdays and "Monday Night Football." Auld Shebeen has food and drink specials during both the Texas Hold-‘Em tournaments and during "Monday Night Football."
