I guess the NHL lockout hasn't been going too bad for Alex Ovechkin.
The Washington Capitals forward/captain has been playing for his hometown Dynamo Moscow in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League, which has allowed him to spend more time with his family, friends and girlfriend, tennis star Maria Kirienko, who is now his fiancée.
Ovechkin tweeted Monday that he and Kirilenko are engaged to be married. The two have been dating for just over a year and Ovechkin spent his extended offseason as the doting boyfriend, cheering on Kirilenko during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and the U.S. Open.
Congratulations to the happy couple. Hopefully, their union will last much longer than the ongoing lockout, which hit Day 107 Monday. If you feel so inclined, then insert your "Ovi finally got a ring" joke here. I would, but I made a New Year's resolution to be nicer in 2013 and I'm getting a head start.
