The original Ben's on U Street is a D.C. landmark. The H street location will not be a landmark, but merely a good excuse to consume chili cheese fries.

It's official: The H Street NE property purchased by the family that runs Ben's Chili Bowl will, in fact, become home to a new location of Ben's.

    We know, you're shocked.

However, in October 2011 when Nizam and Kamal Ali purchased the property at 1001 H St. NE, they said they would conduct some market analysis to determine what would fit the neighborhood best.

That was a tad silly, since we're fairly certain there should be a Ben's Chili Bowl in most D.C. neighborhoods, but hey, they had every right to give alternatives a shot.

Says the blog Frozen Tropics: "Margaret Holwill, who live tweeted portions of the [Wednesday night public] meeting, further reports that the upstairs will feature and open kitchen, and a bar (alcohol served upstairs only). But apparently, the grub upstairs will not be what you can get at Ben's Next Door."

No word yet on when the new location will open.
