NBC4 continues to celebrate our diverse community with special programming during Black History Month.

Black History Month is recognized nationally in February as a time to reflect on the historical and cultural achievements by African-Americans.

NBC4 has brought to light several of those stories, including the history of stepping in our region, in a special that aired during Black History Month.

In another piece, Barbara Harrison interviews Bobby Mitchell, who made history by being the first black man hired by the Redskins -- the last team in the NFL to hire African-Americans.

Later in February, NBC4 will honoring local community partners with a reception and the award of a $5,000 donation.

NBC4 is proud to continuously celebrate our region's diversity with the help of our partner, McDonalds.
