Three Sheep on the Lam for Days in Downtown Frederick

Shear excitement after escaped ewes woolgathered in downtown Frederick

Authorities have rounded up three sheep who took a gambol through downtown Frederick this week.

Details on their escape were fuzzy, but the animals were first spotted Monday evening, the Frederick News-Post reported. Officers went to the scene but were only able to capture one of the three woolly wanderers.

The other two remained on the lam.

The next morning, authorities were called to the city parking garage, where witnesses saw the animals inside -- but by the time officers arrived, the sheep had hoofed it again.

After chasing the sheep all over the city, Sgt. David Luckenbaugh, a county animal control supervisor, said they got them baaaaack after finding them in a creek.

Luckenbaugh said all three female Barbados blackbelly sheep were being safely housed in the county animal shelter as of Tuesday afternoon.

Animal control officers believe the sheep escaped from a small farm north of the city, Luckenbaugh said, according to the News-Post. However, authorities haven't been able to contact the owners yet.
