Stacy Lewis Takes Early Lead at Pinehurst With a 67

Stacy Lewis set a strong pace at Pinehurst No. 2 with a 3-under 67 for an early two-shot lead in the U.S. Women's Open on Thursday.

Lewis played bogey-free on a course that was 1,064 yards shorter than it was for the opening round of the U.S. Open last week. Martin Kaymer also opened with a bogey-free round (65) and went wire-to-wire.

The biggest difference between the two weeks was the weather. Instead of cloud cover, the women faced a blazing sun that was sure to bake the greens.

Only two other players from the morning group — So Yeon Ryu and Katherine Kirk — broke par.

Eleven-year-old Lucy Li had a 78. The youngest qualifier in U.S. Women's Open history had her round ruined by three holes.
