Same Ol' Crappy Wizards

Loss to Miami was the team's fifth in a row

Gilbert Arenas might be back (sort of), but unfortunately, the same crappy Wizards from last season are here, too.

The Wizards dropped their fifth straight game yesterday 90-76 to the Miami Heat.  It's the kind of early season spiral the team's fans were hoping they could avoid.

What's doing them in?  Sloppy play and injuries, mostly.  And both were in great abundance in yesterday's loss.

Mike James, Javaris Crittenton and Antawn Jamison all missed the game with injuries.  And Mike Miller's shoulder is still keeping him out.  That's a pretty good rotation of players who never lifted their buttocks from the pine.

Gilbert Arenas was prepared to sit the game out, too, with a strained calf.  But right before tip-off, he checked himself into the game.  With the way he played, maybe it wasn't the smartest decision.

The bright side is that his stat line is superficially good: 21 points, five rebounds, eight assists and three steals.  Not bad.

But there's a dark side to that.  He was just 7 for 20 from the field, and he turned the ball over 13 times, all of which only seemed to have happened in a 5-minute stretch of the third quarter. It was far from his greatest night, and perhaps he and the team would've been better off had he taken the night off.

The team had 22 turnovers overall and shot just .403 from the field. Ugh-lee.

Worse, Randy Foye left the game with an injury, too, which prompted Arenas to blame the fates after the game. He told reporters, "I don't know what Randy's status is, but . . . we just keep getting hit. I don't know what the hell is going on around here. I don't know if some old player put a curse on us back in the day."

Wizards fans have to be wondering the same thing.
