Legendary Redskins Superfan Chief Zee Has Died

The Washington Redskins' biggest fan has died.

Legendary superfan Zema Williams, known as Chief Zee, passed away in his sleep last night, sources said.

"The Washington Redskins will always appreciate Zema Williams' unique passion and dedication to our football team and his fellow Washington Redskins fans," the team said in a statement.

Starting with a Monday Night Football matchup with the rival Dallas Cowboys in 1978, Williams began attending Redskins games dressed in a Native American costume with burgundy and gold headdress and waving a toy tomahawk. He rarely missed a game.

As the team's name came under scrutiny in recent years, so did Williams' costume.

In April, when Williams was in danger of being evicted, supporters raised money to pay his rent for two months.

It's unclear what Williams died from, but he hadn't been in good health lately.
