The 30-second clip features an eerie voice-over of the late Earl Woods speaking to his son, while Tiger Woods stands motionless in black-and-white staring at the camera and blinking.
Tiger is decked out in a Nike hat and vest, just in case anyone misses the point.
"Tiger, I am more prone to being inquisitive, to promote discussion," Earl says, in the spot. "I want to find out what your thinking was. I want to find out what your feelings are. And did you learn anything?"
It is unclear how Earl Woods' voice was recreated or if the quote is old and being recycled. He died in 2006 and was a major presence in Tiger's life and career.
Tiger is making his return to golf Thursday at the Masters tournament after taking a break from the game in the wake of a now infamous sex scandal where it was revealed the golfer cheated on his wife repeatedly with several women.
"We support Tiger and his family as he returns to competitive golf," said Nike spokesman Derek Kent. "The ad addresses his time away from the game using the powerful words of his father."
Nike was one of the few sponsors that did not drop Tiger after the scandal erupted.
