Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell has signed the General Assembly's revised legislative redistricting plan for Virginia's 100 House seats and 40 state Senate seats.
The Republican governor signed the bipartisan compromise late Friday, clearing the way for primaries in August for this fall's legislative elections.
McDonnell had vetoed an earlier bill, taking particular aim at the Democratic-authored state Senate plan, which he said amounted to gerrymandering.
The General Assembly on Thursday completed passage of a bill that incorporates revisions McDonnell demanded in the Senate and House plans.
