O'Malley Leads Ehrlich Rematch in New Poll

Same candidates, same results (so far)

A new poll has Democrat Gov. Martin O'Malley leading in a rematch with Republican Robert Ehrlich 49 percent to 38 percent, with 13 percent undecided.

The survey of 833 registered voters in Maryland was conducted by Gonzales Research and Marketing Strategies from Sept. 8 through Sept. 17. It has a margin of error of no more than plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

O'Malley defeated Ehrlich in 2006 with 53 percent of the vote, compared to Ehrlich's 46 percent. Ehrlich has not said whether he will run against O'Malley in the 2010 election.

The poll also found that O'Malley's job approval is about where it was at the beginning of the year. Statewide, 48 percent of voters approved of the job O'Malley is doing as governor, while 37 percent disapprove.
