Challenger Accuses D.C. Councilman of “Intimidation Campaign”

Ward 2 challenger withdraws from primary

A challenger to the longest-serving incumbent on the D.C. Council has dropped out of the race.

Fiona Greig said in a statement Wednesday morning that she is ending her Democratic primary campaign for the Ward 2 Council seat.

Councilmember Jack Evans has represented Ward 2, which includes downtown and Georgetown, since 1991. He now has no declared opponents in the April Democratic primary, although the filing deadline is not until Jan. 4.

In her statement, Greig said she was the target of an “intimidation campaign” by Evans and his supporters. Evans deferred comment to campaign consultant Tom Lindenfeld, who denied that any intimidation took place.

Greig also said in her statement that she decided she “just wasn't ready to mount the kind of campaign it would take to win.”
