2 Teens Arrested for Shooting That Injured Yonkers Toddler

Police said the suspects, who are 14 and 16, are believed to be directly responsible for the shooting

Two teenagers were arrested in connection with a shooting that injured a 3-year-old girl in Yonkers, NY., Friday, police said.

Police said the suspects, who are 14 and 16, are believed to be directly responsible for the shooting on Palisade and Locust Hill avenues at about 4:30 p.m. Authorities said the shooting appears to have been prompted by a fight that broke out between several people in Getty Square.

The 14-year-old boy will be charged with second-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment. The 16-year-old boy will be charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal facilitation.

The toddler, who was shot in the arm, underwent surgery and was in good condition, according to officials.

Telemundo-TV reported the girl was going with her parents to visit her aunt, who owns a bodega in the area. The aunt told Telemundo the girl began screaming as soon as she was hit by the bullet.

Police swarmed the area shortly after the shooting and took the two into custody.
