Police: Drunken Woman Steals Car With 13-Year-Old Boy Inside

Incident happened after woman rear-ended Milwaukee man's car with his son inside, police said

An intoxicated Chicago woman stole a Wisconsin man’s vehicle with his 13-year-old son inside after she rear-ended him on Interstate 80 in south suburban Lansing Saturday morning, authorities said.

The woman, Larona L. Green, 32, of Chicago, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet van eastbound on I-80 when she rear-ended a 2005 Suburban with a Milwaukee man and his son inside, just past the Indiana state line around 5:35 a.m., Indiana State Police said.

Both vehicles stopped after the crash, and the driver of the Suburban went to check on Green, police said. Soon after, Green exited her van and climbed into the man’s Suburban – which was carrying his 13-year-old son – and sped away, police added. She began heading eastbound on I-80 and into Indiana.

The boy, sitting in the front passenger seat, had a cell phone and was able to provide his father major landmarks as Green drove, police said. Green was eventually apprehended on I-94 in Portage, Indiana, police said.

The 13-year-old boy was not injured.

Green had a blood alcohol level of .119, police said. She was taken to Porter County Jail and charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, possession of a stolen auto and criminal confinement. Other charges are still pending, police said.
