6 Dead, More Than 100 Trapped in Monster Snow Storm

No LGBTQ person has ever won election to Philadelphia City Council. But a large slate of strong candidates are in the running this year for elected office.

A deadly arctic blast that sent freezing temperatures to all 50 states and dumped more than five feet of snow on parts of New York state eased up early Wednesday, but was set to hit the area again later in the day, NBC News reported. Six deaths were blamed on Tuesday's storm which paralyzed cities and towns. A 140-mile stretch of the state thruway in western New York was closed and more than 100 cars were reported trapped. The team bus of the Niagara University Purple Eagles women's basketball team was stuck for more than 24 hours before players were rescued. The National Weather Service said Tuesday night that some areas of Buffalo suburbs were approaching 76 inches of snow since Monday — a record for snowfall over a 24-hour period anywhere in the U.S. ever.
