A man was killed around 6:30 a.m. Thursday in Fort Washington while walking in the 9200 block of Livingston Road, near Old Foote Road.

He has been identified as Terraine Saunders, 46, of Fort Washington.

Authorities say Saunders was walking on the sidewalk with a woman when the driver of a Subaru lost control, jumped a curb, and struck Saunders on the sidewalk. The woman was not hurt.

Saunders was taken to a local hospital and later died.

Authorities say their preliminary investigation indicates the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. Speed, alcohol or drugs were not factors in the crash, they believe.

The investigation is ongoing.
