Wounded Veteran Nears End of Cross-Country Hand-Cycle Trip in Virginia

A Marine Corps veteran who lost both legs in combat is nearing the end of a cross-country, hand-cycling trip.

Toran Gaal will receive an escort from Maryland State Police as he cycles over the Bay Bridge before heading into Annapolis Friday.

He plans to end his two-month trip from Julian, California on Sunday by placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

Gaal, a native of Oakhurst, California, was wounded by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan in 2011.

He's making the trip to raise funds for the Semper Fi Fund, which helps wounded service members and their families.
