Gun Found at Wilson High School; Teen Boy Arrested

A teen boy was arrested at Woodrow Wilson High School in Northwest D.C. Monday morning after he was found with a gun, police say.

The 16-year-old was stopped with the loaded gun at the security check at the school, a Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman said by email. The name of the juvenile was not released.

Wilson High Principal Kim Martin said administrators learned of the weapon as students headed to class.

"During morning arrival, the administration was notified of a weapon on school grounds," Martin said in an email send to parents later in the morning. "Following security and emergency protocols, MPD was promptly notified, and the weapon was confiscated during weapons abatement. Please know, all students and staff remained safe throughout this process."

Martin asked parents to speak with their high schoolers.

"Please discuss this incident with your children and emphasize that it is against the law to bring weapons of any type to school. Also, please stress the importance of reporting to you or a staff member if there is a weapon at school," her email said.

Wilson High, located northeast of the Tenleytown Metro station, is D.C.'s largest high school, according to the district's website.
