Video Shows Vandals Push Over, Back Over Speed Camera

A speed camera in Southeast Washington was vandalized twice in one week, and now police are hoping new surveillance videos help them catch the suspects.

Police say the first incident happened April 12 on the 3700 block of Southern Avenue SE.

A nearby surveillance camera caught the suspect getting out of the back seat of a dark-colored SUV, approaching the speed camera and pushing it over. Police released the video Wednesday.

The suspect left the area in a vehicle police believe may have been a Hyundai Santa Fe.

The same speed camera was vandalized a week later

In that surveillance video, which was also released Wednesday, a dark-colored pickup truck backs into the speed camera, knocking it over.

Investigators are looking into whether the same vandal is also responsible for both incidents.

Anyone with information that can help police is asked to call 202-727-9099.
