Two Temporarily Trapped After Rockville Crash

Van Flips After Colliding With Truck

Two people in Rockville, Md. survived an accident but found themselves trapped inside the wreckage.

A van and truck collided on Marinelli Drive, between Rockville Pike and Nebel Street. It happened around the corner from the White Flint Metro station shortly after 1 p.m. Friday.

The impact caused the van to flip over onto its side. Both the driver and the passenger were pinned inside.

When crews from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue arrived, they were able to free the driver without a problem, but rescuing the passenger proved to be much more difficult. It took about half an hour to finally extract the passenger.

Both people inside the van were rushed to a hospital, and are expected to survive.

The crash is under investigation. No charges have been filed.
