Teen Dies After Crash Splits Car in Two

Vehicle split in two from force of crash

ROCKVILLE, Md. -- A Montgomery County teen died Sunday after a crash that split a car in two.

Thiago Andrade, 17, of Rockville, died in the crash that occured in the 12600 block of Veirs Mill Rd.

The driver, Johvanny Alonso Garmendez, 17, of Silver Spring, lost control of the vehicle, sending it into a parking lot. The car then split in two when hitting a tree.

Garmendez was sent to a local hospital, where he was reported in very critical condition earlier Sunday. He was later listed in stable condition.

Investigators said they are looking into speed as a factor in the crash.

Both individuals were wearing their seatbelts, police said.

Andrade was an 11th-grade student at Rockville High School.
