2 Hurt in Shooting Involving DC Police Officer, Police Say

Two people were hurt Saturday evening in a shooting involving an off-duty D.C. police officer, police confirmed.

Police said about 7:48 p.m., an off-duty Metropolitan Police Department officer heard multiple gunshots in the 5200 block of Georgia Avenue NW.

The officer went to the area where the shots were fired and saw someone get into a white vehicle, police said. He identified himself as a police officer and fired at the suspect after the suspect pointed a weapon at him, police said.

The suspect, along with several other people, fled in the vehicle.

A short time later, two people suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds were dropped off by a white vehicle at a hospital, police said.

One person, 21-year-old Curtis Fowler, of southwest D.C., was later arrested for assault on a police officer while armed. Police did not identify the other person shot.

Police do not yet know if the officer shot the two people wounded or if they were shot during the initial shooting.

Police are asking for the public's help to find the vehicle and the driver involved.

The vehicle is described as a white, four door sedan, possibly a Kia or Toyota, that may have been struck by gunfire and possibly has broken or missing glass.

The driver is described as a black female with a dark complexion and short dreadlocks.
