Six Injured in Crash Near Union Station

Three pedestrians, three from vehicle injured

Six people, including three pedestrians, were injured in an accident near Union Station Wednesday morning.

According to preliminary reports, two vehicles collided just before 8 a.m. in the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and North Capitol Street NW.

An SUV jumped a curb, struck a garbage can, took out a light pole, struck three female pedestrians, then crashed into a van, trapping one of the women under the van, News4's Mark Segraves reported.

The fire department managed to lift the van to free the woman in her late 50s, police said. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition, D.C. police spokesman Araz Alali said. Another pedestrian was also critically injured.

The third pedestrian and the driver and two occupants of the SUV were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The driver is cooperating with the police investigation.
