Thirsty Turtle Goes Dry

A popular University of Maryland bar surrendered its liquor license Wednesday.

The Thirsty Turtle in College Park has been under fire after a fight and stabbing near the bar involving students who police said were underage and served alcohol. That fight was to be the subject of a hearing Wednesday night

Last week, the Prince George’s County Board of License Commissioners voted unanimously to revoke the Thirsty Turtle's liquor license, ordering the bar to stop serving alcohol by Nov. 23. That followed a hearing about an incident when underage student police aides gained entrance to the bar with their real IDs and were served alcohol.

Thirsty Turtle has been a staple of the downtown College Park bar scene since 2007. In its three years in existence, the Turtle has received three citations for letting underage drinkers into the bar.

The bar can reapply for a new license in the future.

Tonight's hearing will be held, but it's unclear now what will transpire.
