A teen was arrested Thursday morning while carrying a handgun on the grounds of a Rockville high school.
Octavio Antonio Estevez, 17, a student at the school, was charged as an adult with possession of a weapon on school property and other weapon-related charges.
Estevez was confronted by a school resource officer outside Magruder High School shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday. Authorities say he was not supposed to be on school property Thursday, although they did not say why.
Estevez was told to leave, and was arrested for trespassing after he allegedly refused.
An unloaded .22 caliber H&R handgun was found in his backpack, authorities said, although the gun is old and they're trying to determine whether it was still operable. They did not find any ammunition with the gun.
