Suspect Wanted for ‘Violent Crimes' Shot by Prince George's County Officer: Police

A Prince George's County police officer shot an armed suspect wanted for "violent crimes" in Capitol Heights, Maryland, police say.

Police said the shooting happened about 9:50 p.m. Thursday in the 7400 block of Shady Glen Terrace when officers attempted to stop a driver who is a suspect in a "series of violent crimes."

On Friday, police identified the suspect as 27-year-old Terrence Turbo Franklin, of Capitol Heights.

Franklin fled from the officers and jumped out of his car with a gun a short distance away from where police tried to stop him, police said.

An officer then chased Franklin down on foot. Franklin turned and pointed his gun at the officers before one officer fired his gun and struck the suspect in the arm, police said.

The suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

No officers were injured.

Police said a handgun was recovered at the scene.

Franklin is facing charges of first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and several gun-related charges, police said.
