Rock Creek Jogger Grabs Attacker's Own Knife

Fought off a would-be assailant on the Holly Trail

A jogger says a man with a knife grabbed her in broad daylight in Rock Creek Park.

She was jogging on the Holly Trail in Northwest on around 2 p.m. Saturday. The woman says a man threw her to the ground and attempted to sexually assault her.

Police say at one point she may have gained control of the knife.

"She believes she may have cut him in the hand. She also may have bit the assailant in the hand," said Sgt. David Schlosser of the U.S. Park Police. "And so we’re looking for a person who may have knife and tooth marks to his hands."

Schlosser adds the U.S. Park Police is working with local police departments to see if there are any similarities to any open cases.

Police are also asking joggers and others who use the park to pay attention to their surroundings and report any suspicious activity. So far, authorities say they have not received any reports of other attacks in the area.
