Akil Ross, 33, Killed in Hyattsville Hit and Run

Police say a 33-year-old Maryland father of two may have been struck twice while crossing a Hyattsville street last month.

Police were called to the 7200 block of Landover Road near Pinebrook Avenue around 9 p.m. Nov. 22.

The pedestrian, identified as 33-year-old Adelphi, Md., resident Akil Anthony Ross, was then hit by several other cars, including that of an off-duty officer, who stayed on the scene. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"He has two kids that now won't be able to do things with their father," his fiancee Keana Brown said.

Family members told News4 they're not sure why Ross, an auto mechanic, was in the area in the first place.

"I'm very saddened and upset," Ross' grandmother Esther Drakes said. "I grieve a lot."
