Police Investigate Noose Found in Metro Break Room

Metro Transit Police are investigating after a noose was found hanging in a break room at the transit agency's Carmen Turner Facility.

Metro General Manager Paul J. Wiedefeld sent a message to staff Thursday about last week's incident.

In the message, Wiedefeld called the incident an act of "threatening behavior,'' and said the noose is "an ugly symbol of racial hatred, and threats have no place in the work environment.''

Transit police and Metro's Office of Equal Employment are working to identify the person responsible. The person who placed the noose could face disciplinary action "up to and including termination.''

The memo included phone numbers and email addresses where employees could anonymously report information related to the incident.
