Nine People Killed in Traffic Accidents Across Va. Over Thanksgiving

Fatalities down from 2010

Virginia State Police say nine people were killed in traffic accidents during the five-day Thanksgiving holiday.

That number is down slightly from last year, when 10 people were killed in holiday crashes.

State police said Tuesday in a news release that alcohol was a factor in two fatal accidents. Five victims weren't wearing seatbelts.

Troopers arrested 103 drunken drivers and cited 2,898 reckless drivers. Another 8,526 citations were issued for speeding.

Troopers also issued 867 summonses for failing to wear seatbelts and 250 for child safety-restraint violations.
