Man Stabbed Near Howard University

Police say man was 'conscious and breathing'

D.C. Police are investigating the stabbing of a man near the Howard University campus early Saturday morning.

Investigators say the man was stabbed in the stomach at around 2:30 a.m. and was taken to Greater Southeast Community Hospital, where he was conscious and breathing. It is not known if the victim was a student, or if he had any connection to the school

This weekend marks Howard's 88th Homecoming Celebration. The weekend's events include a football game between the Bison and their rivals in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, the Morgan State Bears.

Howard's Campus Police Chief Leroy James told The Washington Post in a story published Saturday that there had been a small surge in crime -- including muggings, carjackings, and a home invasion --  on and around Howard's campus since the beginning of the school year.
