Hoverboards Banned on American University Campus

Self-balancing scooters, aka hoverboards, have been banned on another local college campus.

American University banned the devices on Monday, citing safety concerns.

"This action is being taken as part of the university’s efforts to maintain a safe campus through a comprehensive fire prevention program," school representative Dan Nichols told students and faculty in a community-wide email.

George Washington University and Loyola University Maryland have similar bans on hoverboards, and they're banned in residence halls at George Mason University.

The federal Consumer Product Safety Commission is investigating at least 28 hoverboard fires in 19 states.
