Four Gun Stores in DC Area Burglarized in Past Week

Thieves stole 30 guns in Rockville, 35 guns in Chantilly and a cash box in Spotsylvania County

Men broke in to a gun store in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, early Tuesday and tried to break into another nearby, marking the third and fourth burglaries of gun stores in the D.C. area in the past week.

Two men entered Ash Tactical on Jefferson Davis Highway about 5:20 a.m. Tuesday and looked around, the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office said. They spent about a minute inside, took a cash box and fled.

About 20 minutes later, two men tried to get into SSG Tactical, located in Westwood Office Park about 3 miles north, Fredericksburg Police said.

Surveillance video from the crime shows two men pull up to the front of SSG Tactical in a U-Haul van, police said. The men in hooded jackets took large storage bins out of the van and walked toward the store.

They shattered the glass front door, but were unable to break the lock on a second, metal door. About 90 seconds later, they drove off toward Plank Road.

Police arrived moments later, but the men already were gone.

They did not take anything, the store owner told police.

On Thursday, two people stole 30 guns from a shop in Rockville, Maryland, in just 90 seconds, Montgomery County police said. On Saturday, three men stole 35 guns from a shop in Chantilly, Virginia, Fairfax County police said.

All four police departments plus the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating. A representative of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office said investigators believe the Spotsylvania and Fredericksburg cases are related.
