Group Opposes Plans for More Electronic Billboards in D.C.

Plans to allow huge electronic billboards in more places in D.C. have one group up in arms.

The billboards are permitted outside the Verizon Center in Penn Quarter.

The Committee of 100 on the Federal City is worried about proposed new laws to loosen up the city's tight regulations on billboards and electronic signs. If passed, the laws could allow more of the big, bright signs in certain locations identified as designated entertainment areas, including the streets around Nationals Park.

The proposed laws are tightly crafted to prevent the sign glare from annoying residential dwellers.
