A Frostburg State University student died after collapsing during football practice.

Derek Sheely collapsed during practice Thursday, school officials said. He was flown to a shock trauma center in Baltimore, but he passed away last night.

His family said Sheely, 22, of Germantown, Md., was hit in the head during practice and his death was related to head trauma. He never backed down from a challenge, they said.

Sheely was a senior majoring in history and political science.
