A traffic accident on the Dulles Greenway affected the morning commute Thursday.

At 6:39 a.m. near Belmont Ridge Road in Ashburn, Va., a westbound 2004 Toyota Matrix crossed the median into the eastbound lanes. The Toyota collided head-on with three vehicles, Virginia State Police said. First, a 2011 Hyundai Sante Fe, which overturned. Then it struck a state police 2008 Chevrolet Impala and a 2006 Ford F-150 pickup.

The crash blocked the roadway approaching the Dulles Toll Road.

Virginia State Police said four injuries were reported, including a state police supervisor. The driver of the Toyota, 62-year-old David Blitz, of Broadlands, Va., was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital with serious injuries

None of the injuries was considered life-threatening. All four wore seat belts.

The Greenway was shutdown after the crash for the accident investigation.  At 8:15 a.m., all lanes reopened.
