Firefighters found a child home alone in Bethesda, Md., Wednesday night, and now her mother is in legal trouble.

A 6-year-old girl was found in an apartment in the 6400 block of Rock Forest Drive, police said.

Firefighters responded to a call about a small kitchen fire in the apartment.  The fire alarm had gone off when the child used the toaster.

Officials said the girl told them her mother had gone to a kickboxing class and left her alone in the home.

The mother, 38-year-old Wafa Mutie Abudib, was charged with leaving a child unattended.

The investigation has been turned over to the Maryland State Attorney's office.
