Two firefighters were injured battling a fire at a high school in southeast D.C.

Just before noon Friday, the fire department received reports of a fire coming from the roof of Anacostia Senior High at 1601 16th Street SE.

The D.C. Firefighters' Union said a large volume of roofing material caught fire.  All occupants were evacuated from the building.

D.C. Public Schools said students were present at the time of the fire, but there were no injuries to students or staff.  The school building sustained extensive damage, but DCPS said at 1:15 p.m. the fire had been contained.

Two firefighters sustained injuries while knocking down the blaze. Both fell through the school's roof, and were transported with non-life-threatening injuries. They have since been released.

Afterschool activities have been cancelled, and the school will make an announcement about when students can return on Tuesday.
