Driver Leads Police on 5-Mile Chase Through DC

A man driving a car sought in connection to a homicide led police on a 5-mile chase Friday evening through Northeast and Southeast D.C.

One person was hurt as the man slammed into multiple cars, representatives of the U.S. Park Police and the Metropolitan Police Department said.

The chase began late Friday afternoon, when a Park Police officer on his way to work spotted an erratic driver on Howard Road SE. The officer tried to stop the driver, but he refused to pull over.

The officer called in the license plate of the white Lexus SUV and found the car was wanted in connection to the murder of a 21-year-old man.

The driver sped north and then bailed out of the car on the 200 block of Kenilworth Avenue NE, police said. He ran down an alley and was hiding under the wooden deck of a home when police found him.

"They took him out the yard to the alley and leaned him up against one of the police cars," a resident of the home said, asking not to be identified.

Police said the suspect assaulted an officer as he was being arrested.

The civilian the driver hit was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A Park Police officer also had minor injuries.

The white SUV the man was driving was wanted in connection to the Feb. 22 murder of Deandre Sibblies. Sibblies, 21, died after he was shot about 5:40 p.m. on the 4500 block of Quarles Street NE, police said.
