D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty and Fire Chief Dennis Rubin reported significant progress on Wednesday in implementing reforms in the city's emergency medical services.

Better training is in place, response times have improved and EMS workers have access to better technology, Fenty said.

Fourteen months ago,  a task force was formed after the death of New York Times reporter David Rosenbaum. His death was blamed on poor EMS response.

The mayor ordered the task force to examine the EMS system and issue recommendations.

To date, 29 of the 50 recommendations have been implemented.
