    One person was killed in an overnight accident at the Third Street Tunnel.

    A fatal accident inside the Third Street Tunnel has been cleared and an exit has reopened.

    The accident occurred early Monday.  D.C. firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene and treated several people with injuries.  One person was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The South Capitol Street exit that leads traffic onto I-295 was shutdown for several hours overnight, forcing all traffic on to I-395. The exit was reopened by 6 a.m..

    Police have not released any cause for the accident. They have also not released any information about the victim.
