The Redskins traded defensive end Vonnie Holiday and a draft pick to the Arizona Cardinals for local boy Tim Hightower.
The 25-year-old Hightower has rushed for 1,733 yards and 23 touchdowns over three seasons with the Cardinals. He had 736 yards and five touchdowns last season, and he also lost four fumbles.
Hightower was born in Alexandria, Virginia. He attended Episcopal High School and then the University of Richmond.
In Arizona, Hightower was in a time-share at running back, but has said he wants the starting job in Washington.
He'll have to challenge Ryan Torain, who emerged to get the bulk of the carries last season.
