D.C. Police Officer Who Saved Young Boy's Life Honored at Reception

A D.C. police officer whose quick-thinking actions saved the life of a 9-year-old boy who was shot in the head last year was honored at a reception Thursday night.

Jaydan Stancil was an unintended victim during a gunfight in October at the Mayfair Mansions apartments in Northeast. Responding D.C. police officer Shannon Strange cradled Jaydan and drove him to a hospital in his police car, likely saving his life.

Jaydan has faced a tough recovery period since the shooting, but was released from a rehabilitation hospital and managed to enjoy a Washington Wizards game and meet John Wall.

Meanwhile, officer Strange was honored as Sixth District Officer of the Year Thursday night by Chief Cathy Lanier.

Strange, along with other police officers who helped save Jaydan's life delivered him a slew of presents for Christmas last year.

Police have yet to make an arrest in Jaydan's shooting.
