D.C. Police Install 9 New Speed, Stop Sign Cameras

There are nine new places where D.C. drivers can get a ticket.

As part of their “D.C. Street Safe” initiative, the Metropolitan Police Department installed nine new automated traffic cameras on Tuesday.

Seven of them are designed to catch speeders, while the remaining two are positioned at stop signs where pedestrian safety has been identified as an issue. As with existing automated traffic cameras, there will be a 30 day “grace period” for drivers before any tickets are issued.

The cameras are located:

  • 4200 block of Reno Road NW (speed)
  • 7300 block of Alaska Avenue NW (speed)
  • 2500 block of N Capitol Street NE (speed)
  • 600 block of New York Avenue NE (speed)
  • 4200 block of Eastern Avenue NE (speed)
  • 3700 block of Massachusetts Avenue SE (speed)
  • 3700 block of Minnesota Avenue NE (speed)
  • Eastern Avenue at N Gate Road NW (stop sign)
  • 27th Street at R Street SE (stop sign)

D.C. police deployed over 100 traffic cameras across the District earlier this month. Fines range from $50 for failing to clear an intersection to $300 for severe speeding cases. All tickets are mailed to the vehicle’s registered owner.
