Starting Monday, April 25, residents will have to pay $45 for a new 32-gallon trash cart or 32-gallon recycling cart.

The new fee is for neighborhoods who have twice-a-week trash collection.

Officials at the Department of Public Works say this move is to help reduce the budget deficit and help replace supplies.

โ€œDemand for the 32-gallon carts outstripped our ability to replenish our inventory and stay within our budget,โ€ said DPW Director William Howland, Jr.

The city provided trash carts, topped with sturdy lids, were introduced in part to reduce pests getting into the garbage.

If you need a new trash can or recycling bin, you can call 311 or place an order through the DPW website.
