DC Man Convicted of Killing Mom; Argued Insanity

A District of Columbia man has been convicted of killing his mother and attacking his younger brother.

Christopher Martin used an insanity defense at trial, but the D.C. Superior Court jury rejected the claims and convicted him of all counts Thursday.

Prosecutors say Martin stabbed his mother in May 2010, covering her body with multiple blankets and leaving it to decompose inside a hot, locked apartment.

Martin's younger brother, Demetrius, escaped out a window. He told a neighbor that he had been beaten by his brother and that his brother had also killed their mother.

Prosecutors argued at trial that Martin's mental disorder wasn't the cause of the crime.

He's scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 30.
