A body was discovered in the trunk of a car at a D.C. impound lot Thursday morning.

The car was ticketed for a morning rush hour parking violation and impounded by the Department of Public Works July 12. On July 15, the car was moved from a temporary holding lot to the Blue Plains impound lot in Southeast.

The body was found after a worker at the lot noticed a foul odor, News4's Derrick Ward reported.

The remains were transported to the medical examiner's office for autopsy and identification. Police have not said whether the body is that of a man, woman or child.

Anyone with information about the case should call police at 202-727-9099 or 888-919-CRIME (2746). Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Solvers at 866-411-TIPS and to the department’s text message tip line at 50411.
