A body is found in a Northwest house destroyed by fire.

The fire broke out shortly before 9 a.m. in the 1000 block of Quebec Place. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found heavy fire coming from the home.

Fire officials have not said whether they believe the person was killed in the fire. The victim has not been identified.

Firefighters rescued a dog, which was being treated for severe burns.

There were no reports of any other injuries.

The fire destroyed the home and damaged at least two others.

When firefighters arrived, they found the home filled with debris, which can hamper fire suppression and rescue efforts, D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Alan Etter said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
