Shooters will again reduce the herd of white-tailed deer at Rock Creek Park, the National Park Service (NPS) said.
The deer management program will resume Tuesday and will result in temporary night-time road closures, the NPS said in a news release.
Biologists who are also firearms experts from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will be working under the direction of the NPS and the U.S. Park Police.
The NPS has reduced the park's deer population from nearly 80 per square mile to about 19 per square mile since 2013. Without continued management, the NPS says, deer populations would quickly rebound and eat nearly all vegetation seedlings before they could grow.
