Bear Makes Surprise Visit to Loudoun County Home

Leesburg woman took pictures of bear in her backyard

A Leesburg woman found a surprise visitor -- a black bear -- in her backyard on Sunday.

Elizabeth Lipovsky saw the black bear going through her garbage on Sunday.

She said she stayed calm while she took pictures of her unexpected visitor. She was not hurt.

If you're wondering, wildlife experts say bears hibernate in November through March or April, so perhaps this furry creature had just gotten up from a long winter's nap.

While having bears roam in your yard may not sound like a good thing, there's apparently a silver lining.  Laura Rizer of Loudoun County Animal Control told the Loudoun Times that bear sightings are actually good for the county because it equates to a healthy ecosystem.
